have an 87 sunsport with pleasurecraft 351 V8. Can't run at idle without engine dieing. Runs good once I'm in the throttle and rpm's are up. Pretty sure float is the issue. How do i find out the carb model # to get a rebuild kit? Has a holley on it now but no numbers that make sense. What would be a good repl. carb if I choose to repl. the whole thing?

What are the numbers on the choke horn? That will tell you what kit you need. More than likely if it's a Holley 4160 you can use any old 4160 rebuild kit. Differences in marine carbs are basically bowl vents and likely spring laoded needle and seat. If it's a 4160, this kit should work...

My recomendation is to install an overhaul kit. These carburators are really simple and cheap to overhaul. I am confident that this will solve your problem.

This is the factory Holley Carb: http://holley.com/0-80319-1.asp

Do yourself a favor and get the proper numbers off of the air horn, and order a "Holley Marine" carb kit. Minimal expence, maxiumum benifit. The gaskets are different than automotive and you will get the proper needle and seat's. Al
