I've been searching for some time for a deal on a Sunsport. Seems the market is a little slow right now. Same boats over and over with little selection. As spring approaches so do the deals. If you happen to come across something please add a link here.

if I was closer I would buy that just for the trailer. It would be nice to get 2 axles under my boat.

Ya that's too high but get him down to $7000 - 7500 and you are talkin. Check the stringers and floor as best you can and dont trust him, get it compression tested.

thanks for the advice, I plan to get it compression tested just to be sure before I drive that far. He claims there are less than 100 hrs on a 1986 so I am extremely skeptical. He is susposed to send me some more pics but if everything is for real I'm not messing around, I am just going to buy the thing for what he is asking. You cannot touch a fully refurbished boat for under 8k so if it is in immaculate condition as claimed, I will gladly pay the man. These are the only years that fit at my area club cuz the mother f'ers measure the boat with freakin plum bobs and it has to be under 20 ft and they banned wakeboard editions. So my options if I want this hull only seem to be the 1985 to 1987 editions of the sunsport. Do you have an Idea what the compression should be on a motor with 100 hours?

Ummmmm I think 200psi? I'm not a mechanic, sorry. Someone should know for sure. The mechanic can tell you all about it. Find a private boat mechanic off craigslist and save ~50% on labor and parts.

compression depends a lot on the pistons and even the cam that is in the motor and most compression testers are not real accurate so what you really need to look for is that all the cylinders have about the same compression. i have not done a test in awhile but for some reason 120 and 150 stick in my head but i think a lot of 2 strokes. but figure if you have a 10:1 compression and 1 atmosphere is 15 psi then compress it 10 times and it would be 150 ideal but you have to figure on when the valves open and close so alittle less i would think 100-120 is good. but again it all depends on what that particular motor should have

Well, what can I say... I'm out 400 or 500 and a vacation day from traveling down there to check out an 86 supra with 86 problems. After checking this thing out, it could use a little work. the floor def is rotting and there were some issues with the stringers... The guy selling it was a very honest individual and I believe he just isn't familiar with the boat's known issues. My no bullshit analysis is that this thing would probably hold up for the next two years but then it will probably need a floor/stringer job. It had too many bad signs for me to pay what he was asking. Other than that, the thing was in pretty good condition... the cosmetics of the boat were awesome for an 86 in my opinion. On to the next one I guess
