Last summer I was pulling my daughter behind a 14' aluminium boat with a 7.5hp engine. I drilled a hole in the centre front of a small 1' x 2' piece of plywood. The kids 6&8 loved it behind the boat and my daughter actually was standing on it turning from one side of the wake to the other. This day was the day I decided to get the cold comp back together.

So here we are early spring ... What do you look for in a entery level board for kids that is EZ to ride but also capable to grow into. ANy advise would be greatly appriciated.

This all depends on budget and usage. We started our boys (around the age you mentioned for your kids) out on a Hydroslide board we bought at our local sporting goods store. This is the board we put them on to start with:

Once the boys got a little older and were getting better / more serious, we got them a better set up (Liquid Force Nemesis board with Domain bindings):

When I was young we also used to use a johnboat for boarding occasionally. Be sure you use that dummy turn off switch, oooooh boy. One time I got pitched out when my buddy cut super hard heheh!! It is a great life story now.

I am biased, but IMHO Liquid Force has by far the most complete line of kids gear of anyone. They have so many different sizes for diff years. Lots of selection actually. Look for something with rolled, forgiving edges and maybe adjustable bindings so they can grow with you some.
