What kind of transmission fluid does a 1990 sunsport with the 351 PCM use? I saw the fluid and it looked like motor oil instead of the usual pink fluid I have seen in most transmissions.

On my old 90 comp with the Pcm 351 with power plus transmision it used 20w20 engine oil. It should have a tag on the transmission.

1990 owner's manual states power plus uses 20W motor oil in the power plus tranny or Dexron type A tranny fluid for borg warner tranny.

check page labeled #60 in this link.

Ah thanks! I was hoping to find the manual online, as I dont have it with the boat.

From what I gathered after further research is that they originally recommended 20w motor oil (probably what we have in our trans), and now recommend Dextron III ATF (which is what we will switch to)

Just reading that manual might have helped with a problem I encountered today. The warning beep wouldnt turn off even though all gauges were reading normal, fluid levels normal. The battery was dead, and we recharged it, but Im guessing that was the problem. The volt light was on even though it claimed ~13v while running...but we will put in a new battery and see if that fixes it. And now I know to also check the "warning panel" under the dash.
