I just got word on another forum that Texoma is going to have its water level dropped by 15 feet in an attempt to battle the growing Zebra Mussel problem. Does anyone know what kind of impact that will have on water levels at the campground for Memorial Weekend?

Okie- Where did you see this at (fishing forum) ?

Ash and I are going next weekend to Platter for her b-day, so if its done by next weekend I can check it out.

15ft seems like alot, but the lake is full right now, so it may not be to bad that early in the summer. End of summer may be a different story.

It was a local type forum for fishing and boating. Yeah it seems like an awful lot of water to let out. I think the guy said something about releasing water starting in mid April.

Hmm, I'd like to see the press release. I've found one official release dated March 25, which talks about NTMWD stopping the pumping from Texoma to stop the spread, but nothing about them dropping the lake that low.

Surely if they were going to do this it would be over winter months.

Talked to COE at Texoma, looks like it's true. Called Platter, camp grounds will be open, but not accessible by boat.

We better move the event to Ouachita.

What a bummer huh? Maybe we could go to a different campground? We could go to Murray also.

Dry. I mean bone dry. They say it should fill up though, by April 1st, 2012. :)

We are here this weekend. It is def. low, lower than I have seen it this close to summer in years. I'll get some pics up.

Hard to tell in these, I'll get some more later. It needs to come up 3 ft. I've never seen sand here. In the pic with the parking lot, yiu can see the poles, the water is usually only about 2 foot away from them.

Dusty,

Is that from the campsite area we're getting for Memorial Weekend?

The very place. That's looking out the camper door.

Here is the closet pic I could find from mem. last summer to show the lake difference. You can see what I was talking about with the poles by the parking lot

A 2 foot raise is almost a must, 3 or 4 would be welcomed....

That definitely looks like a lot of difference. It took me a little while to figure out there was water in the background, though. ;-)
