supra comp.yes or no

Just signed up as a member.Have been looking at supra's for awhile.Never had a direct drive before.Anyways need some advice, have been looking at a supra comp.Don't know the year but think it's around 89-90, last 2 digits in the serial number are 09 if this means anything.totally rotten floor & stingers up by the drivers area. the owner wants $3500 with matching trailer.Engine has 500hrs and has been dealer maintained ,spring and fall.I have done stringer work before on my 1960 glasspar seafair,but the supra looks like a total rebuild, to get to the stingers.Does anyone have pictures of the procedures you have to go through? any thoughts? - included some pics

I can't help you on the floor issues other than when you get it done, it looks like you will have a nice boat. Cosmetically from the pictures, she looks to be a beauty. Just a little TLC and a new floor and you have a nice boat on your hands. The vinyl looks good, is the whole interior like that? Gel coat looks glossy and not oxidized from sitting out. Is there a clear title?

The last two numbers are probubly 89 . Based on the color and dash it looks like a 1989 to me . It will cost 3-5k to totaly rebuild the stringers and floor . 500 hours is nothing on that engine if the interior is as good as the hull looks you will have a sweet boat for under 10 k.

looks like a great rebuild candidate. just make sure you want a comp and you should be fine.

check out the service and repair section, there are a few active rebuilds going on.

Looks like you've got a great candidate for a complete stringer/floor resto project. The exterior & vinyl look great from the pics & it appears most of the pieces are still there. It sounds like you've got some fiberglass experience, so you should have an idea of what's involved. Check out the rebuild threads on here for some details (from the sound of it, you probably should split the hull & do it right).

Knowing about the stringers, I'd work on getting the price down a bit.

The Comp is a great boat akin to a sports car on water. But like Salty said, make sure you want a Comp. She was built to pull skiers with precision through a slalom course with minimum wake. If you want to haul around a family of eight on rough open water while throwing a monster surf wake, there are better options. But if you want to take a few people out at a time to ski & willing to work a little harder for a boardable/surfable wake - there's still not a sexier boat on the water.

Sybrmike has a good point about intended use. I have a 96 comp with tower and all. It's a great boat, better for slalom but great for wake boarding. I can do backrolls on the comp wake. Wake surfing - just can't drop that rope. But it is a sexy boat, like driving a sports car. So, you can get a bigger wake and drive a mini van :) or you can get the comp and drive the Porche!!!
