Anyone know...my boat is at the shop so I can't measure it. I need tip to tip length of 87 supra saltare with pleasure craft 454.

Driveshaft I assume? I'll be pulling my driveshaft to check for straight and repack as soon as I get it back from the upholstery shop... If I ever get it back from the upholstery shop. Mine's an '89 but I assume it it would be the same. If no one chimes in by then I'll let you know what mine measures.

Putting the re-faced coupling back on my straightened shaft tonight, so just happened to have it out handy.

The tip-to-tip measurement on my shaft is 45-1/8". It's an 89 Saltare, PCM 454, BW Velvet Drive 1:1 trans, 1" double taper shaft. Hope it helps.

Was cleaning the garage and found my old shaft the other day.... If anyone needs one, it still has a lot of life left in it and it's been checked, straightened and balanced.

Hey thanks wotan! I just ordered one today that is double tapered- apparently more convenient then non- tapered. Drive shaft length was 47"- "3/4"

2 Salts, 2 years apart, yet 2.5" difference in shaft length - WTF? No, I'm not jealous of Rusty's longer shaft - just confused?

Some men are longer then others :P. Kidd'n couldn't resist. :)

It seems to be an un-exact science, because when I called around- another outfit said I would be fine with a 45 3/4. Go figure. I guess a lot of these independent places have a measure by eye concept, ya know?

I can understand that it doesn't have to be exact, but 2.5" could mean the difference between not being able to get the prop off or raising the engine high enough. Maybe the shaft length was where the factory made up for the mfg variances in engine location, engine mount height, etc.? Let's face it, these old boats weren't built to exacting standards.

The double-tapered will be a different length than the previous one, I'm pretty sure. I also switched mine out to double-tapered with a new coupler when I rebuilt. Seems like it should last forever.
