85 sunsport dripless packing help please

does the packing need a water source? If so were and how. If no then do i cap off the brass piece? Thanks for the help....supra newbe

I believe they all need a water source for cooling. Most seen to tap off the line from the thermostat housing to the exhaust manifold.

Todds - pics are worth a thousand words man. Do you have a shaft seal with packing or do you have the mechanical type seal with bellows and rotor? My 86 came from Supra Sports with the Lasdrop seal, which is like the newer dripless seals with no packing, but does NOT have a seperate water source. Post a pic.

Note when I was considering dripless seals for my boat, Lasdrop was my top choice. I decided I had spent enough major repairs/upgrades for one season and repacked what I had. But Lasdrop was the only one that said no cooling lines requires, but recommended for higher speeds or something to that effect.
