Re: 2000 Legacy recently purchased. Looking for the weird speedo pickup with the cylidrical end as opposed to the tapered end. Anyone have any experience with these? One speeo doesn't work and I discovered that the pitot pickup is hollow. I think there should be some kind of plug in the back of the cylinder to allow pressure to build up in the tube. I'm guessing the original owner had a speedo problem, thought the cylinder was plugged with flotsam and inadvertantly plushed out the plug. Can I simply put some kind of plug in the cylinder, or do I have to replace the unit?

Not sure about your question, but here's one

http://skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=769B

note that it says "flow through", probably means the tube is hollow

The "tournament" style pitot from skidim is flowthru to allow small debris to pass without plugging the tube. As an extra precaution, we run a small gauge wire thru ours front to back to clear the tube after pulling the boat out of water. That way anything that might be in there can't dry and become stubborn to get out later.
