I read that putting a large socket inside the couple and re-tightening is a good way to remove the shaft from the coupler...but what size?

I put the nut back on the end of the drive shaft inside the coupler but only a turn or 2 then I used the coupler bolts and retightened them to pop the coupler off the shaft....worked great. On my Conbrio i had to grind down a socket to get the nut on the drive shaft to begin this process....A little bit of PIA....

What size is the nut on the coupler end of the shaft?

Not sure if they're all the same, but on my 94 TS6M it is 1-1/8". The shaft dia is 1". Like everyone says, you have to modify the socket since a rachet won't fit.

1 1/8" sounds famaliar, I ground it down until i could slip it in there and then put a breaking bar on it...

Dammit...I picked up a 1-1/8" socket today to take up to the cottage with me...but according to skidim' tools section...i think it's actually 1-1/16"

Now I really don't remember, socket I modified is 1 1/4", can't remember if it was sloppy and should've been 1 1/8"....I really hope you don't get stuck...I'm headed to Buckhorn thurs or fri if that helps...lol

That would make sense...skidim sells two sockets for "coupler removal" and they are 1-1/16" and 1-1/4"...maybe i'll grab those two sizes to play it safe.

When you say you modified it..i assume you mean shorter, i think i'll just add wrench flats if anything.

I would assume...that it's 1-1/16" just like the prop nut, but that might be far too logical.

my prop nut and coupler were different sizes... One was 1-1/16" and the other was 1-1/8". I had no trouble fitting my normal sockets in there unmodified. Mine is a Saltare though, so maybe a little more room between the transmission flange and shaft log.

Mine's a saltare too, good news! I have no problems macguivering something...but less is better, haha.

Seems strange that it's 1-1/8" though...especially since skidim doesn't sell them. I guess I'll just buy all three and return the ones I don't need.
