mystery noise?

I have a small squeal that sounds like it is coming from somewhere around the v-drive or tranny, it only happens in short bursts above 3000 rpm's. The tranny and v-drive oil are both very clean and to the proper level. The only thing is that my drive shaft seal is needing repacked. Could this be causing the noise or does anyone have any ideas of what it could be? My boat is a 2006 21v

You can use a stythiscope Or you can do it with a loong (24"-36") screwdriver. You can have someone drive and you can touch the screwdriver to the motor, trans and any other solid mass and touch it to your ear and close your ear flap and it will act like a telephone..you will be able to hear whats going on in the trans or engine. You can touch different parts like alt, water pump, eng and trans, and tell when somethings wrong like a bearing going out. It doesnt sound smooth any more..like metal to metal sounds. Try that and locate where its coming from. Goodluck. Jet
