Is anybody running the mufflers that fit inbetween the exhaust manifolds and the exhaust piping in the floor? I'm looking to quiet down my '89 Comp.

Thanks.

Hey Juice,

My '92 PCM 351 HO has a "Sabrex Silencer" that is situated laterally behind the motor right above the transmission. The single fiberglass silencer takes input through hoses from both exhaust manifolds and has output hoses that then go underneath the floor at about a 45 degree angle. I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to. If so, i couldn't be more pleased with the sound of the boat. It isnt obnoxiously loud (nowhere near as loud as my friends '81 MC Prostar), but it still gives the boat a healthy sound. My only complaint is an exaust "drone" at semi-planing speeds between 1600-2000 RPM (i think thats about right, i havent been on the water since last august).

I just looked all over the place online and i cant find anything that looks like mine. I'll be back home from school about the 15th of May and i'll take a picture of it for you so we can tell if we're talking about the same thing.

There do appear to be plenty of individual silencers that run from the exhaust risers and continue down under the floor. They are made by a company named Primex. If your boat isnt equipped with any mufflers, or if your mufflers are worn our or destroyed (due to overheating from lack of water supply), i'm sure these would probably do quite nicely. Apparently the setup that my boat has is not the industry norm, or at least isn't anymore. Well, i've babbled on long enough. Good luck, whatever route you decide to take, and have a great season.

Cheers,
DKJ

DKJ - thanks for the info. I'll checkout Primex and see what they have to offer. I priced the Silent Rider mufflers, and they're $165 a piece. Once I finally get my boat on the water this weekend, I'll decide if I can live with the noise or not. I'll watch for your pics of your setup.

Kraig,

Did you find the Silent Rider Muffler online. I wasn't able to dig it up anywhere. If you did, could you post a link to the site? Also here is a link to Discount Inboard Marine's selection of exhausts. http://www.skidim.com/products.asp?dept=1025

I should be getting home around the 15th or so. I'll post pics then.

Cheers, DKJ

Nope, I never found a link for the Silent Rider Mufflers. I called Anthony at Skier's Choice, he gave me a part number, then I called my local Supra Dealer to get a price.

Thanks for the link to Discount Marine. It looks like the Ultra Marine Mufflers might be the way for me to go. Who knows, I may just turn the stereo up louder and save some money. :)

Did you end up buying the Ultra Mufflers? I purchased a set for my 92 Comp. I've replaced most everything related to the cooling system, however I continue to have overheating problems. Any suggestions?

Sorry it took so long. Here are the pics of my muffler setup. I've never seen anything like it on any other boat. It was made by the same company that makes primex, but they apparently dont make them anymore.

Cheers,
DKJ

Nope. I just put a stereo system in it and turned up the radio. :) I'm starting to get used to the sound. I just couldn't get myself to drop that much money on the mufflers. Good luck with your overheating problem. DKJ listed some great things to check in your other post. Very well could be a faulty thermostat. I can't even count the number of stats I've changed out in my life.....and I'm only 31.

DKJ - that's a wild looking setup. I don't think my motor box would close with that on it.

Is there a replacement muffler being made by anyone? I found the web site for Marine Muffler Corp.

www.marinemuffler.com which links to:

www.centekindustries.com

They were the original manufacturer but they don't have anything in their current list of products. So if the muffler needs replacing is it now being replaced by two separate straight mufflers with some sort of adapter for each side? thanks for any help.
