OK, need your opinion on my carpet color? I have always had dark maroon or burgundy..which ever you want to call it. Should I switch to grey?? The maroon is so rich and pretty. The grey..well I dont know, what do you think? I would have to change the entire boat all the way up to the nose, floor and walls? I have so many choices to make that I need help. thanks guys. Jet

Hey Jet ... It's almost the middle of summer! You should put the boat on the water!!!

Is your carpet "old and tired" looking? I guess, why the change of carpet if it is not needed? Personally, I have grey carpet and I like it as it doesn't really ever feel "hot" under foot.

I think you answered your own question. “Maroon is so rich and pretty” “I would have to change the entire boat”. Color is a personal opinion, go with what you like plus save some bucks for gas :)

I echo this response, why make things more difficult on yourself and your wallet? Get that thing put together and get out on the water pronto!

I am thirding the "get er done and on the H20"! But I just changed my carpet over to grey, it cooler ( temp wise) than black that I was originally going to do, but I am also changing the bunks over to grey, and painted the trailor with grey/silver flake. Sooo, get er done is the underlying theme!

Gray Jet. It's a cool neutral color. Plus you can get the marine backed gray at Lowes.

Yeah, I am all for tile, some added weight for ballast, maybe some slate or granite!

But seriousley, grey is good, maroon is allready there, black may be hot as hadeaus, blue is what I removed from mine, white will stain easy,.......

I really like the grey in mine- even if it is crushed totally flat from 20+years of use. I think I am going to my new Lowes today to check out some carpet. Would love to see some pic's of that trailer devovino!

Does the carpet match the drapes? :D

Really though, in my Mariah which was red, there was no way I was going with gray. The red interior is what made it classic Supra. And really made the interior POP. Even the buyer who got it said "wow, red interior, you don't see those any more."

Make it match the boat. What color is it now?

my old blue carpet was so nasty i wouldn't allow pictures. i remember having to spreading towels to walk around on it in the summer.

the new grey probably shows dirt more. it gets hot but kinda like alum foil it cools down quick. no more spreading towels out.

Ahhhh, woke up this morning and read this thread and got a good chuckle! Thats some funny stuff, I do like they grey in mine as well, it beats that old blue beat up matted down:rolleyes: haggard stuff that was in there. EIther way, dont forget about your options, I see quite a few votes for a sleek alternative like mahogony or even pergo if you wanted to save a few sheckles!

Heres a few pictures of the trailor, the camera phone does not do it justice, it sparkles and pops in the sunlight, maybe I need a more close up shot. Still have to re-weld the fenders back on as soon as the hydro turf no-slip arrives.

And heres a shot of my new grey carpet for you Jet if it is any help, I do like the grey though in all honesty!

I did a little research on this and found that the manufacturers would not reccomend it's use on anything but concrete. I don't see why it wouldn't work with the proper prep work.

I noticed that the rustoleum is water based. I know it's not green but I like me some smelly chemicals in my paint. The stuff just works.

Second season for the complete cockpit of solid teak. I would never go back to carpet. The other day we were in and out of the boat so much the carpet would have been soaked. The Teak however, water just runns off and is dry in a matter of minutes. Good luck on your decisions. Al

Beast, you must have a wallet made of solid money! I wanted to re-build a couple of the plastic storage box frames on my Mariah out of teak to match what is on the boat already- wow is that some pricey stuff! The local place I went to did not have very much either, the guy said not many people want to pay the price!

Why not spray (or brush) a colored gelcoat? Budmas described how he sprayed new gelcoat over his transom repair. Sounds easy enough. Budmas your thoughts...?

bdumas35

Gelcoat sounds like a good plan. You can adjust the air pressure lower on your gun and it makes a textured finish. I did it on my battery box. Plan on the same in the ski locker. For the floor, you could add some non skid.

Forgot to mention the polyester over epoxy issue. If the floor is laminated or coated with epoxy it should be properly prepped before applying the gelcoat.

Gotta clean it and get rid of the amine blush. Then scuff or sand for a good mechanical bond.

I buy Solid teak and Solid Mahogany buy the pallet. Usually 500 square ft at a time. I have installed Teak floor, tongue and groove in many boats. Ironically Mahogany is more expensive than teak. Anyhow, I am extreamly happy with the outcome of the teak floor in our SUPRA. I know we would never go back to carpet. Al

Hey Al,

I haven't run across your floor thread. What thickness and width did you use.

Curious how you spanned the stringers.

Sound awsome.
