had to put a new engine in my saltare and am wondering if you guys have any suggestions on a good camshaft its an 89 saltare with a gen IV 454, 2 piece rear seal, 2 bolt main.

Just call comp.... They'll know exactly what you should use.

I'll second that Comp grind. 262/268 218/224 at .050" should put out a lot of torque. List is kind of low, but that's factory BBC heads for you and just as well for a marine engine for better wear. This cam should put out more torque than the stock cam, have a slightly noticeable idle but not enough to worry about reversion or harsh trans engagement, and have a long flat torque curve from 1400-3000 RPM.

Just my presumptions based on running similar spec cams in similar displacement Fords... Never built a BBC so specifics are just a guess.

If you really want to get creative, get Desktop Dyno and run a few cams through it, or do a few different engine builds. I use DD for every engine I build as I've found it to b e fairly accurate if you feed it accurate numbers.
