Saltare sand filter?

Mechanic asked that I inquire about this- sand filter "goes between water pick up on hull and the engine to catch rocks and sand?"- does anyone use these? Thnx.

sea strainer...yes, a good thing to have. catches more grass than rocks....rocks are on the bottom, stay on top lol

Ha, if you're catching rocks I think you got bigger problems. My trans cooler seems to catch weeds. How effective are these strainers at catching sand? I've always found it's the sand and finer particles that get into the engine and I have to clean out of the bottom of the block and manifolds.
