Hi. I'm new to the forum. I currently own a '86 Sunsport Skier and am looking at a '02 Launch direct drive. When in reverse, the Launch makes a loud whining type noise. Is that normal or a sign of a problem pending? My '86 doesn't do that. Thanks!

I would not think it is normal. I would have someone look at it.

Are you getting rid of your Sunsport?

If it's really loud, no, it's not supposed to do that. But if it's a low volume whine, all my Supra's have done that.

I know mine whined REALLY loud when it was due for a Transmission fluid change. Changed the fluid and it was back to a nice quiet low volume whine in reverse, like it's supposed to. My guess is, needs a fluid change.

The Borg Warner Velvet drives, like your 86 has are exteamly durable and quiet, The PCM transmissions have a light whine in reverse. It is too bad Borg Warner quite making trannys for boats, they are still the best around. Al

Mine also has a slight whine when in reverse. I looked into this as well when I first got it. All the research I did said it was normal.
