Good a time as any to start one... I got nothing exciting so far, but let's see what you guys have been up to this month!

Submarine races:

These folks were doing some kneeboarding, slalom, and footin'. Let me add, after seeing a dude faceplant at 40 MPH I'm certain footers are certifiably insane!

We went to lake this weekend and saw a beautiful wooden boat being launched. I don't know what kind it was. Very loud and inspiring though.

Got anything from the Poker Run weekend Steve?

Unfortunately had to pass this year, I coach Cross Country and we had a meet Saturday.

My brother-in-law went and said the sights were as good as always :p. Mentioned there was a twin turbine boat running 200mph+.

"Thats Kyle's boat"!! not even knowing you were going to be there. Thats talent! Thanks again, Jet

Please tell me that's your Salt with the 1500# set-up you've mentioned before... Great clip, wake, 360's, etc. Got any from a higher perspective?

If it gets too cold for you up there soon, you're welcome to come on down & help set mine up (who needs an interior?). We're still bumpin' 100F temps, but you may have to bring a few hundred million gallons of water along with you.

Dusty somehow managed to get a crazy good deal at the last second on a great place at broken bow so we loaded up the boats and headed out.

Left off the kiddo pics as most weren't on the water and Dusty has more of the riding pics. Here is what I ended up with ....

Thanks! I picked it up for $4500 with trailer and reg good for 2yrs. I was a bit misled though...She is in excellent condition, but some things were misrepresented. :( Was told the bunks were just redone and find that after my 2nd launch, one has completely ROTTED and the only thing between the metal base it attached to was carpet!!! Thank God I didn't punch a hole in the hull going over some of the rough roads here! I trailered it almost 300mi since I bought her the end of August! The other issue...she shows 200hrs on the clock...but it doesn't work! I would think just from the condition and how tight things are...probably under 400hrs, but no telling. Over rough water she is quiet...no rattles. I used to ski at a professional ski show and the MC's and the Malibus we had after a season of pounding, rattled like marbles in a can! The last thing that should be addressed is the packing around the shaft and the seal on the rudder...they're both leaking. Minor fixes. Mechanically she is mint and water ready with minor things I more want to do than have to do. I want to adjust the carb and probably give it a full tune up and oil change just to start fresh/end the season. I plan on a new head unit and speakers, some LED lighting in cabin, gauges, and transom. I didn't have to, but I just replaced the bilge pump and float so that I know whats in there...cleaned up some wiring, and now need to work on the trailer. Plan on blasting, painting, replacing the bunks, new LED lighting and wheels and new guide post covers. Call me crazy but I think I may do the floor in the next yr just to be proactive. After reading some of the stuff on here about stringers and soaked foam and floor rot...I am nervous! LOL. I do have a soft spot around the access hole to the left of the drivers seat...feels like the plywood is starting to seperate. That's my only "major" concern right now, but to put things in perspective...it's an original '86...its gonna have some flaws. Most 25yr olds I know...they have issues too! LOL! I feel I wouldn't have paid as much, but we're talking maybe $500 difference in price...it's the cleanest boat I looked at and the least expensive too, so I don't feel too bad, just wish people would be honest. As for being here... I am glad I am part of the family!

Dtha
09-20-2011, 10:17 PM
Mine's an 86 too and no where near as clean as yours. My floor and stringers are probably rotted, but no signs of stringer rot at the engine mounts so I don't plan on doing it anytime soon. I'm too cheap. Probably keeping the tape on the seats too. No need to spend money when I can surely get another season out of it.

Copper is 9 months now. I know anyone who owns a dog will attest to this but. . . Best dog ever! Awesome temperament, loves the water and the boat. Previously had a german shorthair pointer. Very similar energy levels but the Vizsla seems much more concerned with sticking around, even from a young age he has always stayed close. Can't say enough good things about them. I'm sure he would fit right in with your weim. If you have any other questions just shoot me a PM.

Damn man, that's a shame. Looked like a clean well taken care of truck. Glad nobody was hurt! Shit happens though, and at the end of the day it's just a truck and can be replaced. Good luck on the hunt for a new truck... Get a Ford!

Safety Bob
10-03-2011, 03:02 PM
I would try to fix that truck. I bet that you could get that fixed for under $5,000 if you were to take it to a body shop that would put used panels on it. I have a '97 GMC Suburban with exactly the same front end on it. I would try to find a front end clip, core support, radiator, etc.. and have it all installed and painted (with the parts edged first of course). I would help you with it, but my garage is in Illinois outside of Chicago. Did you find out if the frame was bent? That would be the kicker to determine if the frame would need to be pulled, but even that could be completed by the right guy at the right price. Any chance that the other party was "at fault"? Let me know if you are going to part out the interior. I could possibly use the seats/console, and perhaps the drivetrain. I would get some other estimates as I bet that you could still get that fixed up for a reasonable amount of cash. That is a good truck and looks like it could have a lot of life in it yet!

TitanTn
10-04-2011, 08:37 AM
I'm sad for you. It was a beautiful truck with a lot of life left. I hope you were at least able to keep the front license plate!

10-04-2011, 11:34 AM
Beat. That's sad to see Dan. I used to have a '99 Suburban with the same interior, but different color - damn good truck. And yours was in great shape too. Hey, at least it was your truck and not your boat! Glad your wife is ok too.

10-05-2011, 07:31 PM
If they have not picked it up yet, go ahead and swap them out with junk ones. You know they did not add those to the value of the truck when they totaled it out. I had a similiar thing with a camper that I just put all new wheels and tires on. Insurance totaled it so I put the old ones back on and no one knew and or cared.
