So I'm at work surfin' the net when I run across this really cool wooden boat. Is this cool or what?

Absolutely stunning! On the topic of wood boats, I saw the best name for a wooden boat earlier in the summer. The boat was named, "Once a Tree"

no- I'd like for it to be at my house though. I love the long bow and the lines. What a beauty! It's made by Hacker Boats.

The restoration shop assisting with my 86 is one of the best in the midwest and specializes in "wood". I get easily distracted when I'm there....

Let's see - ~30 ft wooden boat with cramped seating for 4. Impractical, high maintenance, over priced - and SEXY AS HE!! I built a few wood strip canoes back in the day & always had a soft spot for those classic runabouts and even some of the modern knockoffs. The craftsmanship can be unbelievable.

Let's see - ~30 ft wooden boat with cramped seating for 4. Impractical, high maintenance, over priced - and SEXY AS HE!! Agreed - nothing there is practical. But if you've got several hundred thousand to blow . . . why not! SEXY is the right choice of words! I looked at one online that was for sale - built in the 30's and restored with a 1300hp, 12cyl aircraft motor. Asking price . . . . . ready for this . . . . . $695,000

It better be sexy for that price!

That engine choice wouldn't happen to have been a Packard Merlin or a Rolls Royce of some sorts would it? Those suckers can run at well over 105PSI manifold pressure and not miss a beat!

Yup, that is an engine out of a P-51 Mustang...serious power there.

The hackercraft boats are still made in my area... on Lake George, Silver Bay, NY. Old school/new school, a picture at their shop... my Saltare in the background... the 2nd and 3rd pic is really wild... 30' hacker w/Arneson surface drives::817181728173

That's really cool! I would love to come see their operation and the boats on the lake. The idea of a "classic" wooden boat with today's powertrain pretty much does it for me.

I have a line on an old wooden correct craft. I only hope I can scrounge up the cash to buy it before he sells it. It's in terrible shape, would have to be a complete re-do.......but man oh man do I want to build one of these beauties.

After all my projects around the house are finished (don't know when that will be) I want to restore or build a wooden inboard using some of the plans you can order online.

...and here is my retirement project: building a replica to this hackercraft: 22.5' extended cockpit (i'm many years away from this project).
