Winter project are leds. Jonyb has me straight on in cabin and compartments but I was looking on the back of my 08 22ssv and can't really see where you guys have mounted your transom lights. I also see that you guys had a group buy on some (which I always seem to miss). and was wondering if you guys were happy with them. I was looking at the shadow casters and they seem f in expensive. Don't even see where I could mount them. Please let me see some great ideas. Thanks gene

do you leave your boat in the water?
if you keep it trailered when not in use then I would suggest the ozinum lights. My buddy installs them and they are fantastic! You install 3-5 of them on the transom under the swim deck and they put out a ton of light.

the high intensity flood lights work great!

Geno, I used a string of lights from SuperBright, and they were cheap, but don't really do much.

I bought a string of those with 30 lights in them. They're epoxied to the underside of the swim platform. I wired them through the platform brackets, but I won't elaborate on that because it didn't work well. You'll just have to run a wire inside the transom for those.

Bakes Marine sells the LED's that Malibu puts on their boats. They're not as expensive as the Shadow's or other brands, but still get the job done.

thanks jonyb. The oem malibu look great but only come in white. I was thinking of going blue. Found a post where some of you are buying the strips on ebay. I was wondering if any of you mixed them with oznium superflur and how the match up in color.

the lights will be so far away that if they're anywhere close in color it will be okay. Most LED's are all the same anyway, some are just brighter. Blue underneath the boat won't be very bright at all.

On the other hand, I installed 3 blue Shadow Casters on a transom last year and they were so bright they lit my whole garage..... $1800 though.

Here's another boat with red cupholder LED's

This is all I have of the 3 Shadow's. Boat owner is 3 hours away from me, so I don't get to see it in the water. 6000# ballast was installed last year too :D

Save up and buy a shadow caster, seriously, it is completely worth it. I tried to save money on two bullet lines and they were complete shit, bought one shadow caster it completely outshined the two bullet lines.

Two Bullet Lines:

Two Bullet lines + One Shadow Caster:

Enormous difference, especially when moving.

Shadow Casters, no question. I will have them on my Saltare again. They helped me sell my last Supra.
They are amazingly bright. I mounted mine outboard (not center) and about 1" below the waterline when the boat is sitting still with no weight. This ensured they were as high as they could get, but still underwater. They need water to keep cool.

They look amazing when running too. I had people say they could see me coming, from the front they were so bright.

$2k? I bought one for $600 and it is plenty.

[url=http://www.ambersbridal.com/wedding-dresses/wedding Still waiting for some pics on a ssv. Their transom are moulded round. I found a set for 1100 delivered but that is still too much for me without a good plan on where to put them. Only flat spot is where the exhaust exits and there isn't enough room for the 10's.

Mr.jrc that was great info. I'm still trying to figure out where to mount them.

how easily do you have availability to a machine shop? My bullet lines i mounted before i got my shadow caster I put on to close so I had to skew my mounting of the shadow caster, and made an aluminum backing plate.

If you are working with a rounded surface, any machine shop can make you a backing plate to accomodate the round surface and just mount the led with it as if it was a large washer.

Not particularly pround of this installation, but it works fine.

Thanks, I thought about a backing plate too. I think I'm going to cut a pice of plywood and see how much material would need to be filled in. I'd like to mount one on each side but would have to mount them higher( right under the platform) in order to intercept the wire coming thru the hull. Pics are great info. thanks

Looking at the width of the Shadow Casters, has me wondering if they could be mounted on the inside lip of the swim platform to shine back, the should illuminate the water just fine from there I think. Only issue though is if you are one to remove the swim platform on a regular basis.

Jetlink, why are you thinking about mounting one on the swim platform rather than the transom? Along those lines, I think they're fairly wide, at least wider than the lip on a fiberglass platform.

Along those lines, I think they're fairly wide, at least wider than the lip on a fiberglass platform.I wasn't thinking about it too much, it was just a thought for those that have a big aversion to drilling holes in their boat. Me personally, I would not have a big deal with mounting them to the transom. It was just a crazy idea I got when I saw the width of the light and the material available on the swim platform.

I wouldn't mount them to the platform, any vibration in the platform would be noticeable in the lights. Your lights would be constantly shaking when idling at the dock.
