Starter issue

One out of every 10 times or so- the starter will operate without turning the motor over. Makes a cool vrooom sound. Pretty sure this is the starter drive shaft going out? (Might have mis-named the part) Seems to happen a bit more when cold. Replace the starter- or rebuild it? Any thoughts? Thanks.

You are correct it is the starter drive. If you have the skill replace it . Also replace the brushes and inspect the bushings. If you dont feel comfortable then just replace it.

You can find places that rebuild starters for cheap, I had mine rebuilt last week for $65. You can do it yourself to.
