Looks awesome. I would like to do a garden, but I know I'm to lazy to take care of it. I hate yard work, I even pay a company to mow my grass for me.
^^ you can always start by planting tomatoes in 5 gallon buckets (store bought starters).
Most likely when you get your 1st harvest - you'll get the gardening bug and will expand to in-ground planting. Radishes and lettuce are extremely easy to grow and don't require much maintenance.
Oakie...wrap them babies in old panty hose - keeps the bugs off the fruit and will expand as they grow.
I would like to do a dwarf lemon tree in the living room. They be spendy tho.
Living in Florida, I do have experience with citrus trees. Growing them indoors is very do-able and price depends on the age of the tree.
You can get dwarf lemon trees that are 1 - 2 years old for about $30.00
the fruit laying on the ground
The melons ... interesting, never thought of that Ed ...
works to keep bugs from munching a lot of plants...including cabbage
Cool idea...never heard of that either. Currently I'm fighting with aphids. They've destroyed a couple plants before I could kill them and they are getting bad enough on others I may have issues if I don't get them under control.
did you ever look into Neem Oil?
here's a video about it and aphids: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc-Do5rucQs
I had some Neem oil...I think I had gotten it and used it last year. I've been using something else up to this point, but used it last night. We'll see how it does.
