Pretty pleased with the tent, it's done a good job keeping the hull dry. I think pep boys had mis-marked the pricing or something b/c at 169 it is a heck of a deal.

Back on post # 7 I mentioned that the boat came with 40 gallons of Vinyl ester, and I got around to testing it last week, but it did not kick off. I decided to order up some new hardner (MEKP) from US Comp and gave it a test tonight.
I mixed up 1/2 pt and thickened it with some cabosil.
I just slathered it on some scraps laying around to see if it is going to work for my fillets.

After about an hour it had gotten a little firm and rubbery
Here's what I left in the pot, it seems to have kicked off like its supposed to...it was hot enough to melt through the pot, and was hard as a rock.

What do you guys think? Probably should work for coating the raw plywood stringers and fillets, then I'll use the 1708 and some expoxy to glass in the stringers?
Yeah, I think that will work fine. Just make sure it's mixed well and not too weak. Your ambient temperature will make a difference for curing times also, so take that into account.
Rebuilt the Sherwood Pump tonight.

Did some cutting & grinding on the port side tonight...with any luck I'll have the main stringer on this side bedded down by Sunday. I have it rough cut, but still need to shape the angles/profile for bedding down.

Got the port side bedded down tonight after work.
Here it is mocked up. I set it in place dry and traced the lines on either side of the stringer and then leveled it up in place using the blocks and clamps.

I'm helping a friend install some windows in an addition he is working on tomorrow and then hopefully sometime Sunday/Monday I'll be ready to tab this side in. With the main stringers tabbed in hopefully the pace will pick up.
Question for you pro's out there who have been down this road before.
What are the absolute must things to do before putting the cap back on. My plan is to pull new speaker and light wires around the boat and maybe redo the pvc channels or at
least extend them somewhat in areas...anything else I'm not thinking of?

I'd do everything you can that you won't want to reach up into tight spaces to do later. Yeah, I have quite a few pics of the front. I'll look tonight and send post some.

I wasn't happy with how the transom pieces set up using the vinyl ester thickened as glue, so I yanked them out and will re-bed them with epoxy.
Most of the fillets are done, but I ran out of cabosil but will have another 5qt delivered next week and will wrap up the fillets.
Get ready to put yer seatbelt on. Once you get those glassed in stuff will start happening more quickly. Flooring is a piece of cake in comparison. Install the engine and drop the top. Clean up some interior stuff....rubrail...splashdown!
Alright, so it's been quite a while....I'll try to catch everyone up.
Progress on the glass has been super slow on account of the weather and no garage. Luckily (i guess) we've only had snow/ice 3-4 times so far that has required me to go out and knock the snow off the tarp roof. With the weather as cold as it has been, I've moved some of the glass work indoors. All that's left is some final floor supports.

Looking good Coose. Once you can get back into it seriously, it'll really start coming together quickly. The hardest part is just to get going - especially when it's cold.
Looks like some good progress and prep. I agree, once the cold isn't a factor and you get going, it should move quick.

looks great. what type of wood are you using for the floor, and what are you doing to the floor to make sure it doesn't rot out in 10 years?
I'm using 3/4" marine ply, which is coated in Epoxy and glassed on both sides. On the top of the floor I plan to Epoxy & glass wood blocking and cleats to the deck surface and anything that needs to be secured to the deck will be screwed into the "sacrificial" blocking/cleats.Quote:

..I forgot to grab a pick of the inside of the gearbox assembly. When reinstalling you have to keep a spring loaded with a ball bearing pressed against the throttle shaft, so one hand was doing that and the other was covered in grease.
There is also this little spring with a smaller ball bearing which is on the trans lock out side

Other than shooting one of the ball bearings across the basement and the ensuing search mission to find it, the job was very simple and straight forward.

Yes, this is in neutral. Ask google to find you a video with the title "Morse MV Style Throttle Control Service"...the video does a great job detailing the controller, though they do not open up the gearbox.Quote:

I know it's a lot of work, but after seeing how the manufacturer did it, and now seeing well it's going back together - how much confidence do you have about what the end result will be? Last 50 years with proper care? I love seeing these older boats going back together knowing that they're now built way better than they were on an assembly line. Looking great man.
TitanTN - it's an interesting point. I think that the drainage holes alone could have delayed the rot and breakdown of the original stringers considerably. No drainage + open cell foam equals rot. I've addressed both of these in my rebuild so hopefully with proper care I won't see any rot for 20+ years

Fixed a hole that was in the bow locker.
I glassed over the entire hole and once it kicks off I'll grind it smooth and re-drill the opening.

A couple of updates.
I built a gantry crane out of lumber to lift the cap and position it on the hull.
Here is the cap hanging from the crane. You can't see it in the picture, but the hull is on the trailer directly behind the cap.

Here is the hull being pulled under the cap. I hooked up an ATV winch and mounted it to the front hitch on the expedition and it pulled the hull into position quite nicely. In order to "steer" the hull I would just move the truck forward or backward which would change the angle on the winch.

And here is the cap loosely fitted to the hull. I will still have to raise it in order to complete the wiring and some final glass work on the underside of the cap to reinforce some mounts for a tower.
