There are flaps back there. State law... They are just hiding. There wasnt any side to side movement of the truck since it was done though.

That's one h3ll of a tow-rig....
I looked at a couple CTD's today myself.
Gravity - I can't wait to see your write up on the oil extractor ... I assume you just hooked it into the drain hose they provided out of the pan?
Ball valve then the pump to the stock hose.
Cummins Turbo Diesel.
gotcha. Id get a 5.9. That is why I had to do the dually conversion. This was one of the last ones out there. It was a 2500. I changed the rear end and got springs off a cab and chasis 1 ton. I didnt like the idea of buying a new motor on its first year.
Were there problems with the others? I just started looking at them. It was just gonna be strictly an 06-07 LBZ Duramax, but I think the Ram 2500 might work for me too.
The lbz motor is great. I was also looking at an 07 chevy dually but they werent coming off the price at all. It was like 52,000. It was also one of the last ones that I had found. It was black with tan interior. The tan was just to much. I counldnt do it. The Dodge had a 10,000 rebait strait off the top so I jumped at it. I found the rear end in south Tx. I got the wheels here in town at a junk yard. I found the springs and the front hubs in south Ok on craigslist.
The problems with the new diesels are from their exhaust. When the filter gets clogged it goes into re generation mode. You loose 10 mpg while it is cleaning itself. Ive heard stories of dealerships not replacing them under waranty...
The only problem Ive had with my truck is the tranny. Im on my second one. I will purchase a built tranny when my waranty runs out. Then Ill never have another prob. I will also do a long bed conversion when my waranty runs out. The beast will be 20 inches longer.
Right, I've had the LBZ and still kick myself where the sun don't shine for selling it....
On the CTD, Don't most people remove the filter or block it off? What's the deal with the trans? Something else I didn't realize is that they're 6 cylinders. How does the 07-08 6.7L compare to the LBZ and LMM with 6-spd's?
My torque converter shreaded. It blew chunks all through the tranny, cooler, and lines. The dealer had my truck for 4 weeks. Their explanation was- Dodge is going through bankrupsy and they didnt have extra parts.
Ive riden in a LBZ with a 6 speed auto and a LLY with a 5 speed auto. Both were great trucks. Both shifted smooth and got great mpg. The lly smoked 3 or 4 engine wiring harness. The lbz has gone through 2 turbos. When I was dealing with the tranny issue I wish I had bought a chevy.
If you purchase a used Dodge the filter is no problem. They make exhaust kits and programmers that remove the filter. There is nothing wrong with the motor or the tranny that I have heard. The waranty was the only issue that would be worth worring about.
I purchased the Mega Cab because of the room. The regular Crew Cab has an entirely to small back seat. Bad design. I have slept in the rear seat (folded down) on several occasions. Im 6 ft and I stretched out all the way. I just wish they made it in a long bed.
How did they go through 2 turbo's on the LBZ? I've heard of the problems with the pre-06 models and really won't go older than the LBZ.
On the dodge front, I'm looking at 08-09 2500 Mega's with 6.7L, but hoping to stay under $30K.
I've been looking around at them, but really need to either sell my 2004 Caddy CTS-V or trade it.

Man, Id love to trade. Ive always wanted a v series cts. Ive driven a zr1 vet, owned a 96 impala (heavly moded), supercharged 93 cobra. I love goin fast. But on the other hand I really love lake time and I need a tow truck.
