Well, its been a year and half since I bought the 242 and it sure has been fun so I thought I would update. We had a fantastic summer for 2017 and ended up putting just over 100 hours on the motor as it got used about every weekend. So now it has just over 140 hours on it. I had the oil, V-drive, and tranny fluids changed twice already with one new impeller.
We had 19 family members try to learn to surf. Some were more successful than others but we never gave up trying with each one as we did many 360s time and time again. Even my 68 year old in-laws had to give it a try. "There is a pocket there...I promise you!"
With the Southern Supra Reunion attendees and the neighbors also going at it, close to another 20 people rode behind the work horse. It never failed to produce lots of smiles so it has been well worth the price of admission.
I had to perform 2 separate repairs on the upholstery already as those hot days stretched it open at the seams when it got walked on but they were easy fixes. The wife also got to looking at the iPhone while driving and skimmed some rocks with the prop so she got a nice invoice for that one. Props (get it?) to forum member Gogger for shipping down a temp unit quickly that saved us from purchasing another.
So, after one successful season behind her, I decided to make a few upgrades to enhance the experience for all the future guests.
First off, I got the problematic Vision dash finally fixed. It got sent back to Supra and new firmware. The dealer could not connect and do it local of course, so I ended up getting the invoice for that one. This should make filling the ballast a lot better as I can now change the ballast timer for fill and empty. I bought new green impellers for the three pumps which tended to drain after awhile. See if that is the fix for those.
Second, I like the Sunsport for the walk thru bow which allows me to access the drivers seat easily. However, the front cushion is not long enough to fit a decent sized human on, much less lay down. I ordered skins from Supra and had a custom box made to fill in this area giving us more storage but easily removable to access ballast underneath floor. It is completely carpeted on both sides and just squeezes in for a tight fit. I get a Launch seating now but still easy in/ out at driver's station. May use this for some lead weight storage. See pics.
Third, the stereo sounded decent but gave me a few issues ultimately. You couldn't hear much when surfing because of the exhaust which is Supra Awesome!
I contemplated a FAE exhaust but I live for the sound of an inboard motor. Best thing to do then was to upgrade the stereo. I completely removed all factory Polk, Clarion and Kicker amps and went with Fusion and Wetsounds with 3 separate zones. With the REV8s on the tower, the surfer will definitely hear the music now and I don't have to lose the great exhaust notes. See pics.
Fourth, besides wiping one out on the side of a dock, the wake racks performed sufficiently. But I decided to upgrade the wake racks to the newer Roswell Triton racks with MAG swivels. They are currently on backorder so no pics yet, but can't wait to try them out. I may use the old ones up higher up on the S-bend where they have additional screw holes for just such a thing.
I'm looking forward to summer and the reunion.

You've definitely been up to some Mischief. Looks great - I especially like that new boat and padded covers.
You been up to any other boat work?
Thread off the rails would be a blood-pressure thing when thinking of other Supra boat work.
Throw me under the bus? You prefer to yell is my thought.

Never posted pics of the NEW Roswell Triton Surf racks. What a major improvement. Absolutely love them (not the price though). They are so smooth and easy to use. 2 seconds to grab a board and no water in boat after usage. They don't budge while underway and no chatter.

Well, it has been almost 2 years since I posted on my 242 thread. Figure I'd show some updates as I start my 4th season with it.
Boat has been absolutely fabulous for what I paid for it and how it performs. With the cost of the new ones going through the roof or should I say, more expensive than my house with a roof, I'm in for the long haul on this boat. Love the style and shape and she is a strong performer. Is it the best wake, probably not, but I'm not a great surfer so it evens out. When the wave is dialed in, it's really good, long and tall enough. It makes a huge difference to have the lead ballast and the number of people so kinda have an idea after 3 seasons what we might get on any given day with it and how to adjust for each outing.
The boat has about 340 hours on it currently. I purchased it with 40 hours on a new motor which averages out to 100 hours a season so far. It did have a minor hiccup last season as the motor threw a code and the shop couldn't find a resolution. It didn't affect performance at all. The code was cleared and then appeared one more time. It was suspected to be O2 sensors but they checked out and no issue found. Hasn't done it since last August. If you have seen this code on your boat, I'd like to know what your issue is or was. I will a share a pic of it below.
When I purchased it, it did have some dock rash and minor scratches. She cleaned up good but was a 7 out of 10 at best. I decided at the end of last year to have it professionally buffed out and replace all the Supra chrome lettering with new. Not sure why that lettering is so darn expensive but the dealer got me for about $1100 with shipping. (Thanks Skiers Choice!) That included all the 3 Supra logos and the Sunsport 242 lettering.
There was some wet sanding needed in spots as well especially the red gelcoat. The shop I used did an incredible job and in a two week timeline. I could not be more happier.
Here are some pics after the work was done.

Maybe you should warn people to wear sunglasses when reading this post. That is some serious shine.
Good pics. The last two are really NICE!
Well, another 100+ hour season is in the books. Purchased this great boat with 40 engine hours almost 4 years ago and now have just under 440 hours on it. One of the prettiest boats Supra has ever made in my honest opinion. Have not regretted this purchase one bit. The surf wave is great (I'm not a professional) for a 3rd of the cost of what the new barges are going for which makes it even better for my wallet. Thanks goodness for cheaper gas prices this year too.
Update: After wondering why 'Big Sexy' popped codes up on O2 sensors at the end of last year, it became more apparent as to the why this year when the baffle went out in the muffler. Started knocking like rocks in a washer machine. Luckily, it had no bearing on us using the boat and with the pandemic, we missed maybe only two or three weekends at the lake house. I did have a dealer come out and run some tests with their computer and she passed with flying colors and found no issues with O2 sensors. Just another failed cheap muffler. I have been investigating either replacing the muffler (not really cheap dollar wise) or going muffler delete and then add a FAE exhaust for around same price as new muffler. Guess I have a few months to think on it as the boat is now in storage for the winter but glad to know what the issue was with the engine codes.
Update: I finally got my new cover delivered from Evolution Covers after first approaching him in December of 2018. It took some time to find a boat to pattern on the west coast and then for him to go and make the pattern. Once I got in the rotation, he had it sent and then it turns out I had a different tower so I had to send back and wait once again for him to correct which he did all at no cost to me. Cory did a great job and was easy to work with. He has a pattern now for anyone needing a Sunsport 242 or a Launch 242 cover. Most of these boats will be 7-9 years old now and if like mine, stock cover becomes dry rotted with ripped seams and broken plastic connectors. I used the Sunbrella fabric with 10 year warranty. Looks great, fits even better. I am very happy with his work and do recommend if you can wait on a cover.

Man I love the way your boat looks.
Great choice on color for the cover.

minus a point for the cheapo rim on the spare
j/k, killer looking rig all around! The 242 is easily the sweetest looking 'modern' design, imo.
Thank you sir for those kind words.
Lol, love the first comment. Made my day.
Trailer came without spare. Had a flat tire pretty soon after purchase. Tire shop could not find a matching rim. So, bought five new tires and one cheap rim and I’m usually not cheap.
Thanks Salty!
Hard to believe but 5 years has passed since I bought my Sunsport 242. Hard to believe she turned 10 years old.
Still loving every minute I get to use it. Turns out it was the best decision to buy used while prices were down to earth and reasonable. I can't believe the prices I am seeing right now on same year models. The new barge pricing is absurd and ridiculous. Good news for me is, the insurance company still has this boat valued way more than I paid for it.
So, we decided to live up at the lake house over the summer for 3.5 months and I for sure would have thought I would put more hours on it than I usually do vs commuting. I average 110 hours a year just on this boat. I did about a 105 hours this past summer with every weekend booked with friends or family except maybe for 3 of those I did not have to entertain. The boat now sits with over 545 hours and running strong.
Memorial Day weekend started with me losing my temp gauge. The thermostat ended up going bad but was stuck open which allowed me to use for a few days before I could get replacement. If it was stuck closed, my family would have been sorely disappointed for those 3 days without surfing.
This is a 2 piece thermostat and needs 2 gaskets. SkiDim sent me only one gasket and so I returned it as I was really pissed off they charged me $15.00 bucks for shipping on a package that weighed maybe 7 ounces. I mailed it back to them for $4.50 and they refunded my money on the T-Stat but not the shipping so I lost $19.50 on that endeavor. SMH. SkiDim has become very arrogant over the pandemic and lost a lot of respect from me.
I drove down to the local Skiers Choice dealer, which I can't stand much either, but they had it in stock for only $43.00...with both gaskets!
Wasn't hard to replace but just took my time to clean old gaskets and make sure all went back together smoothly.

Finally ordered from Fresh Air Exhaust to replace my stinking muffler. The muffler sounds like its tumbling rocks and has become pretty annoying. It hasn't caused any problems except we could not figure out for a long time why I was getting Co2 sensor codes off Bank 1 and Bank 2.
I debated replacing the muffler but everyone I talk to with mufflers has had an issue or knows someone that has had an issue with them so I figured I would price out FAE and to my surprise, it was cheaper than just replacing the muffler and better for the family while surfing.
I went with the 1 piece Y type with blended welds and side mount option which will be supported from the swim platform. Decided to do muffler delete as well so straight pipes out to FAE which will give me more room in engine bay. Dealer said the exhaust will sound good but more quiet while surfing. Time will tell. He threw in free shipping and when I got invoice, was even less than he proposed and about $100 less than replacement muffler.
When "Big Sexy" gets out of winter storage, this will be priority for install.

So what you're saying is that you didn't get shorted on flecks in the garage floor paint? :D
That's a great deal on the FAE and will be something you appreciate every time you go out on the water.
