Isn't the weights on the distributor for timing advance different from auto to marine??? Because the marine engine is always under load. This thought was the main reasoning I still have points in mine. Also they are fun to set up every other month.....

its possible that the timing advance curves will not be the same. The elecronic system does not have actual weights though, thats a points things.
What I can say is that I considered that as a factor as well. After swapping it over I had no problems at all in any way. Power was stronger, Carb could be adjusted better, and it worked right out of the box.
I went with wrecker parts because I was concerned about that too. I thought $20 for a dist, cap, rotor, and coil was not bad. And was willing to gamble it.
Hopefully someone that has done the swap on your exact engine type can chime in with specifics of what they did, where they got it and so forth.
Ill let you know in the spring what I end up doing with mine.

You can get them at Summit or Skidm.com. They are like $120?? Easy instructions to install. You want to replace these pretty quick because the "lobes" on your distributor that run your points are wearing down and wont open up 100% of the cycle, there for your engine isnt running properly or at 100% and makes you have to adjust them constantly. Replace them fast. For the last 5 years my boat has started on the 1st bump of the key..I swear it starts like Its a EFI motor now. GREAT MOD! Do it!..Do it!..just do it!!

Hey Jet, do you happen to know exactly what all I will need to swap my 351 in my 85 comp over to electronic ignition. I have never done that and everything that I read here tells me that it's one of the best mods to do. Sounds like it made a huge difference for you. What kind of changes did you notice once you swapped yours over?
Thanks for any help.
