1986 Sunsport (open bow) rebuild

Took on this project last summer. With school and work it's been slow coming but it'll get there.

It's going to be a lot of extra work but I'm not doing carpet. I've gel coated all the visible surfaces and I'm planning on routing my own black on faux teak Seadek.

My number one suggestion to anyone wanting to take on a full rebuild is... Don't!

For the stringers I used 23/32 treated plywood. For the inner stringers I staggered the ends of the strips and then glued, pressed, and screwed them together.

I used 1.5oz mesh cloth, 1.5oz biaxial, and epoxy resign. Under the stringers I loaded it up with a mix of epoxy resign "peanut butter"

I would suggest to anyone to use thinner mesh cloth, with more layers. Thinner cloth with contour better.

Don't use polyester resign. It won't have the structural support that epoxy does.

At this point on I've been doing my work out of a storage unit at my apartment complex. Not ideal condition but I've been making it work.

For these edges, I did each surface separately. I hit the cloth with polyester resign, let it set for a day, then cut away the access.

Here I just wanted to see how everything sits and looks. I have yet to cut away slots in the fiberglass lip at the bottom to allow the seats to sit flush.

I'm planning on fastening the lower engine surround with 2 stainless steel pinned hinges and 2 anti-rattle latches.

I'll be fastening the seats with corner brackets and inset threads in the floorboard so that then can be unscrews and removed.

Why the rush? Looks good.

Also, that has the Rider windshield where it had the long arms and they cut them off. (From your first pics) Don't see many '86 Sunsports with that style of windshield. I'd be curious to see the HIN on this boat.

Thanks Lively! I just wanted enough room to get into opening in the bottom of console. I may end up cutting it down a few inches for that same reason, to allow for foam height

When I did mine that where I put the batteries and then made a latched back rest . But what I did the second time really worked far as comfort . It's plush but that white is hard to keep clean ! Lolhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d5df133f15.jpg

I use small scrubber for tough stains , but always use conditioner and just keep it's at least wiped down , but it's a boat . So yeah it's gonna get dirty

Won't get you too much detail though. Supra from '86 plus hull # 02082.

Improvising is scary!! I'm about to paint the bottom side. I don't have the means to do it all at once so I'm blocking it, then removing the blocks, and then painting the missed spots.

Did some brainstorming yesterday and ended up far from a classic look for the exterior design. The last picture is the design I'm going with. It's slightly copied from a newer Supra look. What do you think?!

Yep! But I'm not having it printed. I'm ordering white, red, and black vinyl and using the knife-less cutting tape to do my designs. Your engine rebuild seams to be coming along great! I'm curious how much that new prop cost? I've gotta replace mine as well.

Prob was like 400$ shipped to my door . Like 368$ or something , check out wake makers.com for pricing , I'm interested in the tape .. that's gonna take some time to get it laid on . I have been thinking on wrapping my boat . But too much $$ in it all ready

Oh I bet! That engine doesn't look cheap. It's sure going to run though like hell though.

I made up a 3D model on CAD software to calculate how much wrap I need for interior and exterior. Came to about 65ft x 5ft so about $600 bucks from Vvivid, not to bad really. I figured it will take a day to wrap, I'm sure it'll turn into 2 or 3 haha

Improvised paint booth and then the vinyl wrap. For doing this with conditions that aren't ideal I couldn't be more happy with the results.
