Just for reference, i paid $6500 for my 1988 sunsport 454. 700hrs on the clock, boat was close to immaculate, and very well taken care of. Original stingers were VERY solid (and still are 4...
This thought had crossed my mind. I'm pretty sure that Wakesetter could have been set up better, i wasn't there and never saw the wave. It did have a decent wave, my buddy is a decent surfer and...
OP - these guys are steering you in the right direction. Don't waste your money on an expensive surf setup on your Sunsport. I have an 88 sunsport that i surfed for a few years with just ballast. ...
Definitely not crazy. Like others said its worth more than $750 in parts. If i wasn't up to my ears in projects already, i'd jump all over something like this
poorhouse, your garage looks like mine. 1988 sunsport and 96 arctic silver M3 here. I see you have good taste in both boats and automobiles.
hook up a manual gauge and check see what you have for oil pressure. Do you have a gauge or a low oil pressure light? It's possible you knocked off the wire on the oil pressure sending unit.
NOOOOOOO! Very happy your family and house are ok, but that's such a sad sight. That was an awesome boat. RIP Allegro:(
That big block Sunsport looks like a good deal for someone.
I wonder if its really a 454 and the seller is mistaken. Supras never came with an olds motor afaik. different bellhousing bolt patterns so the usual trans options won't fit without some kind of...
if the compression ratio is kept below about 9.25:1 then running 89 octane shouldn't cause detonation if the engine is tuned properly. Anything above that, i'd recommend at least 91 octane.
Glad you got that sorted. Welcome to the family, congrats, and thanks for saving another great old ski boat. People here are always very helpful. post some pics of the new project!
My 454 with about 800hrs holds 40psi at idle, and 60psi+ at any engine speed above idle. Your numbers do seem a little low, but not horrible. You have already verified your oil pressure since...
Unless you changed pistons, your 454 has around 8.5:1 CR, same as mine. It will run on damn near anything lol. And no, your not crazy, All of my carburated engines run better on Non-ethanol...
IMO, you guys should be more concerned about running ethanol free gas in your boats over what octane rating your running. I won't get into the havoc that ethanol will wreak on your fuel system, ...
Try some heat on the broken / stuck bolts. If you have access to an acetylene torch use that. If not a bottle of map gas and a torch tip from home depot is the next best thing. For the broken...
just want to clarify, i'm not laughing at your problem grogger, i'm laughing at cadunkles solution and wotons response. I can't offer much help here, hope you get it sorted out
Dear Supra,
My idea's are awesome, you should pay me for them. That is all.

Lots of funny in this thread so far lol
i'm not a ford guy, but i know some of the older chevy cylinder heads do not have the mounting locations for the marine accessory brackets. Double check your heads to make sure you can bolt all...
i had a similar issue on my old CC Barefoot Nautique. Same PCM 454. It ended up being the breaker.
i think the shallower angle might work better. i see people using a steep angle and getting mixed results. I'm having good results with about 35 degree of angle off the boat hull, but im also in...
possibly a bad breaker. Sounds like you already have the fix on the way.
i run my ballast even so the boat does not list. I have a 35 degree angle on my suck gate (still pretty mild compared to others). I found that moving the suckgate vertically up and down the hull...
I think you'll be happy with the results. Post your design and results in the ghettogate thread when your done. I really like the different designs that people have come up with
