Great advice guys.
I definitely think it is lack of rpm, and probably a carb tuning issue. I think this issue was here before I rebuilt the engine (has probably less than 100 hrs on it and runs...

Folks
Seem to be struggling with top speed on my 85 Comp. Engine runs smooth and gets on plain without issues, but seems to top out around 35 mph. It will run at that speed at 3/4 throttle without...
Have you checked for head gasket leaks? Compression test and a check of the oil would help isolate that as an issue.
Hi Folks,
My father had an incident with my boat on the ramp and ended up snapping the rudder off (damn roller trailer!). Any idea on what is the preferred replacement part? I can’t find one and...
I like that Bimini, looks awesome Michael!
What kind of brackets hold that stock mirror in place?
Great to hear! Will have to order one on Amazon and check it out.
On a similar topic, does anyone have suggestions for Bimini tops for Comp's?
Great suggestions. With the CIPA mirror, is there enough range to angle the mirror from the base? The comp window is pretty steeply raked and angled forward.
Hi Guys,
Hope everyone is well. Haven't posted on here in some time. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions; I am looking to swap out the flat mirror in my '85 Comp with a convex one either...
Even if you manually shift the trans at the casing?
Unfortunately looks like something internal to the trans. Although the damper plate didn't solve it, good "cheap" preventative maintenance for...
Sounds like it could be damper plate related, unfortunately that means trans has to come out.
But confirm that when you shift it by hand on the trans that it is positively engaging in the detent....
Can you confirm that the gear selector is positively engaging the detents for both forward and reverse when you do it manually? Seems odd that you arent getting either gear.
If it was a damper...
Essentially you want is to make sure you have 12V going to one side of the ballast resistor, then on the other side of the resistor you should have around 9V so you can take a wire from that point on...
100% Agree. I had a similar problem with my 85 Comp for years and could never figure it out. Turns out it was a bad coil, ballast resistor, and bad wiring.
Another thing to check is to see what...
HI All
Been a few years since I posted!
Wondering if anyone has any idea on part numbers for the removable platform brackets that would fit a Comp, or how I could go about adding them to this...
Great looking restoration and excellent use of materials. That dash update has got me inspired!
Well after the rebuild, I thought the caulking under the rub rail had separated so I re did that good and don't see any water coming in that way.
After a heavy rainstorm I opened the engine cover...
Here is what I am running, you should be able to get it at most stores.

The milky white substance sounds like water mixing with oil in the engine....not good. Have you checked the oil level on the dipstick?
Use post 39 for reference.

No problem man. The part your talking about is probably the starter solenoid, where all the ignition and accessories get the power from.
The ignition coil is the round cylinder that has a single...
Be sure to check the voltage on the positive side of the ignition coil and feel how hot it is. Also check the resistance of the primary coil. What type of dizzy are you running? Generally speaking...
On my '85 Comp, we did exactly what Michael is talking about above. We put aluminum plates on both sides and used 3M 5100...a lot of it. The transoms are very weak in these boats, notice a massive...
I did a cap on resto with the stringers and floor, mostly because we did not have the facility to take it off.
It was really difficult with the lip but it can be done. If you can, take the cap...
Winterized and fogged my Comp yesterday, we are getting below 5*C temps up here in southern Ontario!
Pulled up the foot tray and noticed a wee bit of water in the hull. Looked at the rub rail,...
