Yes I have used all types of Hydroturf and black tip mats. Both with and without the 3M backing. I prefer hydroturf but they are they are essentially the same.
The 3m peel and stick does not hold as well as the contact cement. But if you are okay with removing it and putting down a new sheet after a season or two you will probably be better off with the 3m....
More than just peeling off... It comes off in tiny pieces if you use the contact cement. Then leaves a hard, rough residue. It could also pull up gel coating and paint.
Just remember that removing this stuff is never as fun as putting it down!
Teflon tape should be okay. Unlike the oil pressure sending unit, the drain plug does not need a solid metal to metal ground. Are the threads beat up at all? Did you check the torque specs?
I am about to tackle this project as well. For the wiring, would you just cut the old wires, remove the old valves, and splice in the new valves? Sorry to thread jack the 3 year old thread lol.
You need to wire your power wire into your ignition switch. If that doesnt help, you will need to run a ground wire from the perfect pass direct to the battery ground.
