I would check for water in fuel. I had similar sounding issues and that was the culpret. Check and see if the vent to the tank got stopped up also.

You will need to bypass it to get the 12v to the coil. You can run a new wire to a ignition activated 12v source. I just put all connections on the same terminal on the ballast resistor.
