I'm going to keep grilling you about this and hijacking Jet's thread - I'm interested in cost. I'm looking to move to a dual battery setup. I will want one battery to power my two amps - one of which powers 6 speakers, and the other powers the sub. From looking at the picture above I should get a distribution block, the VSR, possibly the dual charger and BEP switch? Not really sure what those last two are for. Just by glancing at that what would a rough estimate on cost be?
Chris, there are a lot of variables

Distribution blocker should run under $80. I think I paid 70'ish for a 4 out (4 awg) fused distro block.
    VSR, I have no idea
Dual Charger can be had in mid 100's I think? I believe promariner is a get the job done at a good price product.
BEP switch, I have no idea.

There will be some cost in wiring. 0 awg from batteries to Distro (some recommend a fuse in that run); 4 awg from distro to amps. I'd likely just measure the needed lengths and run by a local installer, chat with them about what you have going on and ask if they mind cutting some wire for you. Should give you a decent price.

For two amps, a distro isnt going to clean up the wiring alot but it does help and provides an easy place for fuses.

Agreed on buying the power and ground wire in bulk...much more cost effective way to go and you can get marine rated wiring. Here's a good link...

    http://shop.genuinedealz.com/

I bought all my power and ground wires from them, including battery set ups. I had them do end effects on a lot of them too, putting on the terminals I wanted, heat shrink, etc.

On the transom remote, from everything I've seen the remotes are specific by brand and work with only certain models within that brand. If there isn't a transom remote in your brand designed to work with your model, you will have to buy both.

Jet, if I'm not mistaken, you have to have the same name brand of head unit(marine version) and transom remotes for them to function together. I went with Sony just because of the price of the remotes and the fact there there are a few different styles to choose from. So far, so good. Some manufacturers want just as much $$$ for the remote as they do for the head unit... I added one remote w/display at first next to the throttle and had plans of later installing an additional transom remote for the swim platform.

Now I think I will give this a try instead of the wired transom remote. (No holes or wires...)

I meant to paste this link in there as well. Explains a little better how this thing works.
