Thread: Gas Question

  1. #1

    Default Gas Question

    Have a 1987 Supra Saltare with a 454.
Over winter I race snocross and have some extra gas in drums for it.
It is Sunoco 260 GTX which is 97-98 unleaded octane.
Could i run that in this boat/motor and be fine?
    Thanks,

I'm sure your boat will love it.

Yep it will be fine. In all honesty, that's the best to run in your engine. Burns much cleaner and better. But ooof it's expensive.

Yes it is..about 6.50 a gallon. Run it straight or mix it with premium?
    Thanks,

If it's just clean fuel, no oil mixed, you can run it with anything. But if you want to truly get the benefit of running a high octane tank once, run premium.

It's not a bad idea to run premium through the older engines from time to time as it can help clean'em out a bit after running less clean fuel most of the time.

I normally put a tank of seafoam in everything I drive once a year to clean them out, and make sure the injectors don't get clogged.

It's just octane. Higher octane than required can actually decrease performance slightly (doubtful you'd ever notice it though). It'll run no different than pump gas, but if you need to burn it before it breaks down, throw your extra race gas in.
