    Default Noise in drive unit

Working away on my flood boat, thing are going ok. Engine is running, got all all the electric working, but I have a gear noise if I turn the driveshaft by hand. Sounds like a manual trans that is almost in gear as the teeth skip pass they grawl. Do not seem to hear it when engine is running all the time, just sometimes. Goes away if I put it in gear. Noise seems to be closer to flywheel area. is there a clutch unit or something near bell housing.

    Thanks Brent

Flywheel/flexplate/damper plate will not turn when turning driveshaft by hand.

I'm struggling to understand the problem exactly; there's a sound that occurs when you turn the shaft by hand, that also occurs when the engine is running with the transmission in neutral? Same sound? Is the boat in the water when you're turning the driveshaft by hand?
