Default Bog down and over heating

My Indmar Assualt 325...2005 has been running great, but last night when I got the boat out in an emergency I ran the boat without properly warming the engine a short time at over 3000 rpm a mile or so to help a friend. On my return the boat began bogging down and then overheated. I shut the engine down and it was belching from the exhaust due to the heat, after it cooled...it did restart and sounded fine, but again began over heating. Any thoughts?

I"d start with a bad impeller, clogged water intake, bad thermostat.

I checked water intake and both looked clear. How difficult is it to replace impeller and thermostat? Thanks for your response. FYI...alarm never went off so dont think it got too hot, but how do you know?

original impeller? if so it is 7yrs old, typically beyond its life expectancy. I would be willing to bet your temperature gauge is not all that accurate, my factory gauge was way off, replaced it with a prosport gauge, now much better.

But why the bogging down...would the computer power down the engine if it thinks it is over heating? Not original. I recently bought boat and was told the impellor was replaced 80 hrs ago.

The boat goes into "limp" mode when it over heats. So yes, it should bog down. Change your impeller. Cheers.

Impeller is fairly easy. (4 screws and needle nose plier will pull the old one out). Careful on tightening the screws since they are brass and will break easily. Snug should be good.

Yep, impeller for sure. I had to change mine on the water with a storm coming a couple weeks ago. Same exact symptoms. I carry a spare always anyway. It's a snap to change as stated above.
