Remote (helm) control not turning on

This part:

Will not turn on. Stereo works normally, as does everything else on the boat, but opening the lock box to adjust anything is a pain.

I don't know how to troubleshoot it, but also don't see why it would just go bad on a 3 year old boat. Just buy a new one?

I have trouble with mine sometimes too, I really have to depress on that blue power button to get it on. But I don't use my head unit anymore so it's not really a big deal for me.

I thought this unit was hard wired all the way back to the head unit. However after looking online for a replacement unit I saw it has a fairly short cord and then a plug. So after digging a bit more, I found that short plug had come unplugged just behind the helm. So it was a simple fix, made harder by my incorrect assessment of the trouble points.

FYI anyone else who has this problem - there is a plug maybe 12" or so behind the unit, check there first
