    Default engine timing/ idle speed

How many degrees advance should the timing be set at? Idle speed?

6 degrees before TDC, and mine has good marks on the balancer (1988 model). Mine seemed to do better at 7 before, knocking is the only limit, turn it as far as it will go and still run good, the more retarded, the better throttle response for pulling.

    washmaster,

Watch your advise. The timing for an 88 comp with PCM 351 is 6 degrees BTDC @ 600 rpm IF you have the prestolite distributor with the clip retained cap. If you have the prestolite distributor with the bolt down cap, the timing is 10 degrees BTDC @ 600 rpm.

87-up comps all have screw down cap distributor I believe
