Default Anyone ever weighed a Saltare?

I know the original specs put it at 3500lbs dry..... My friend picked mine up last night with his 2012 Tundra 5.7 to tow it up to a cabin and just called to remark about how much heavier it is than it looks. I've always thought the same thing and am only really comfortable at highway speeds with a 3/4 ton truck.

It's well within his trucks capabilities but I'm now really curious if anyone has actually weighed their rig?

I've never towed any really big boats, but I definitely know my Saltare is back there. About the only time my ol' 460 sees north of 2500 RPM is towing the Saltare. I've towed a bunch of 18' boats and I can't even tell they're there. A few 21' and I feel the weight but not bad. On the plus side, my truck stops almost as good with the Saltare as when not towing. Might actually stop better as my back brakes lock up easy in a hard stop without weight over the axle. I may talk to the people at the landfill or scrap yard and see if they'll let me weigh it some time.

FWIW I tow with an '86 F-250 Supercab lifted 6" on 35" with a SAS to a 1 ton Dana 60 up front, and upgraded to one ton driveshaft and such out back. Cruises nice on the highway at 2000 RPM/70 MPH in 5th, no sway, pulls straight and easy, though I do have to hit 4th on hills.

Boat AND trailer is right at about 5000lbs.

Yeah, they are heavy. My F-150 does alright towing it actually. But that's compared to the 300lbs jeep and 3000lbs trailer. Jeeeezus

You do know there's that weight station right on 94 across the river Ha, I've been meaning to weigh the boat and trailer, especially since picking up my Excursion

Find yourself a stone quarry or scrap yard they will normally help you out for a few bucks.

Going to be interesting when I finish my 1948 1-Ton Chevy Truck. All of 100hp and drum brakes all the way around. Super low gears and big wheels should help me get the 1 mile to the launch and back. Doesn't take much to stop at 30mph. Going to try it out before I start on the real work of notching the frame and putting it on air. Maybe a diesel conversion?

I can't read what this says... but.... also.... What boat is in the photo???

The saltare, I believe, always had the love seat for the drivers chair. The SunSport never had the triangle shaped rear seats. It looks too big to be a mariah... but.... maybe?
