Hey guys, anyone running Mobil 1 in the indmars? Looking at my first change for my 325 assault and curious if I extend my trend of using Mobil 1 from my car/truck to the boat.
Concerns with not using Marine oil?

I use Mobil 1 15w50 in my 89 351 770 hours and my 08 350 575 hours . The 15 w 50 has all the protection needed for non roller cams.
You still have to change the oil every 50 hours.
I was planning on switching to Schaeffer oil this year. I'm running it in my truck and it has some pretty cool additives in it. I switched my van over to it, and am also running MotorKote, and Lucas.. I put Motorkote in the tranny and noticed that it sifts a lot smoother too. As for changing it every 50 hours.... I would believe you could at least double it... just my opinion.
There really shouldn't be any place for oil to leak as a result of the higher pressure from a thicker oil. There aren't really any external gaskets or seals exposed to full pressure, just spray/drainback and whatever is sloshing around. Any pressure ridiculous pressure at higher RPM is bled off by the drain back valve on the pump. Shouldn't be any issues with 20w50 even on a fresh engine with factory clearances. The thicker oil will rob a little power, but should be no problem in warmer weather. I wouldn't run 20w50 in colder weather or really cold water temps, and you should be sure to let it run for a bit before getting on it so the oil gets to temperature and flows easier to where it's needed.
I run Valvoline VR-1 Racing oil in 20w-50. As cadunkle says, I leave the boat running while tied up at the dock while I park my truck. By the time I get back, it is up to operating temp. My pressure is usually right under 60 on the guage when running WOT and ~40 at idle.
