Default Engine cuts out at operating temp

First time out for the season. Started right up, warmed up good, then when I advanced the throttle I lost power at 2000 rpm only to have the engine back fire. I continued advancing the throttle to see if it were bad gas. After playing w/ it i found the common denominator is cutting out at operating temp and now it will not start back up till the engine cooled at least an hour later. And it seems the more i started the engine to get it to move back to the dock the poorer the engine ran till it cut out again. Any thoughts?

fuel related. Check the fuel pressure at the rails. Sounds like a pump problem.

I really think the gas is the biggest problem.
get rid of the old and start fresh, then move to the fuel filter and then the fuel pump.

Swapped the cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, distributor module, and coil pack. Checked fuel filter, not too bad but have one on order. Disconnected the supply line coming from the low pressure pump to the high pressure pump to check fuel flow. When I kick the ignition the low pressure pump buzzes but no fuel comes out. Plenty of flow coming in. So my new low pressure pump comes in tomorrow w/ the fuel filter. Crossing my fingers ill let u know. Thanks for the help 98 supra pirata

Finally got it fixed. Turned out it was the distributor.
