    Default 87 Saltaire engine stunting /dying at 3500rpm with full throttle

    Hi guys. Have rebuilt the 454 in My 87 Saltaire after having 2 bent conrods. If I give it full throttle it takes off perfectly but at about 3500rpm with full throttle it stunts/dies like pushing the choke on an already warm engine. If I pull the throttle back a little it is fine but if I push throttle on further it stunts. I had the car by serviced thinking it may be the car by but didn't help.

    Any ideas please.

    Fuel pump pressure and volume , Fuel filter?

    Float levels, particularly secondaries? Secondaries opening? Check timing and advance. About 10* initial and full at 34*-38* by 3000 RPM.

    Have replaced fuel pump with 80gpm and new fuel filter forgot to mention sorry Michael. Have checked timing although used a timing light without dial so might check with a better timing light. I'm will definitely look at floats. Secondaries weren't opening until it bent the arm that attaches it to throttle cable so it will make sure it is opening properly.

    Kinked or clogged fuel tank vent?

    Haven't had a chance to look into problem yet. Hope to get a spare our or 2 tomorrow to look into it. Will update then. Have to look into fuel air mix also. Will look up how to do as I don't think I have an external adjustment screw on the holly 600. Anybody know is there an easy way to check? Thanks.

    How do u adjust the advance? I thought it was vacuum based. Thanks

    No vacuum advance on a marinized distributor, should have weights.

    Technically yes the advance can be adjusted but it is not something you are going to be able to do. Just make sure the weights and springs move freely.

    Have you checked that the gas tank is venting properly? Always check the simplest things first.
