Default 2018 Supra SL 450 but comparing to 2017 MC XT23

    Hi,
This is my first post. Just sold my 2007 Malibu 23 LSV and ready to pull trigger on 2018 Supra SL 450 but comparing to 2017 MC XT23.

    1) For the people that own this boat or have tested it and the MC XT23, which one is better for wakesurfing and which is better for wakeboarding? Supra is heavier and has 1000 extra ballast. I wonder if the wakes are better due to that or if they need that to be competitive due to hull designs.

    2) The Supra has a 73 gallon fuel tank , is that because it consumes a lot more gas than competition or just better design that gives is more time on water?

Seems that real purchase price (not MSRP) is similar on these boats. Not a fan of the XT23 V storage space (instead of flat storage space). Stock stereo on 2017 XT23 MC sucks, and they say its MSRP of $4K. For a $158K MSRP, XT23 should have a subwoofer and some 7.7 and 8 inch speakers.....anyways.....

I mainly wakeboard and never wakesurfed. But Im 47 so see myself getting into wakesurfing.

Thanks for your honest feedback !!!

    Hey there.

Not sure you will find much on comparing the MC to Supra over here. Did you try Wakeworld? Bad thing with that site is the brand-loyal owners. Most of the newer Ski Choice owners (Supra and Moomba) are on the Moomba page now.

You will find most of the write ups on the SL are for wakesurfing. In the Supra line, the SA and SL go head-to-head. They run a heavily weighted 550 SA on the Supra wakeboard tour, but both boats can do both well: boarding and surfing.

The SL will run 3200-3400 rpm OR 3600-3700 rpms depending on your prop setup and weight. Some guys will say 6-7 GPH. I also have heard 7-8 GPH also.

There was a thread on the Supra Facebook page on fuel consumption:
    https://www.facebook.com/groups/1786...3680472704104/

There was also a good discussion on the Moomba page about the SL on props and rpms
    https://forum.moomba.com/showthread....ighlight=Supra

If you want some good reading about the SL, there is web site called Wake9.com Robert Garcia (aka Ragboy) has been a Supra guy for few years now. Bought a SE, then moved to a SL 550. He picked up the boat in Knoxville, drove across the country and recorded some good video. He was a Tige guy, but does some pretty good reviews and comparisons on wake boats. Also runs that Polar Bear Event in north CA.

    SL is awesome boat!!!

If you are going to buy and SL, get a 2019- To many upgrades to buy a leftover boat, Unless you are saving STUPID money!!! The resale on the 2018 and older will drop a little because of the new stuff in the 19's. Just my 2 cents. The 18's are awesome, but if you can, find a 19 at a boat show.

True. But it’s hard to chase technology b/c it changes so fast for SC.

SE older boats dropped in value once the 19 came out.

You will also find a better deal if you can find an 18 with 50-100 hours on it. They are listed cheaper than a hold-over 18.
Most SL 18 buyers will probaby hang on and get 2 seasons on the boat.

Both are hard to find in a SL . . . let me be more specific, both are hard to find in a good color combo. I found a few deals, but they were 'odd' color combos.
