Default Need advice on swim platform finish

I have built a new swim platform out of Honduran Mahogany and i am struggling to figure out how i should treat it before i put it in the water. Everything on google tells me i need to varnish it with 8 coats of varnish, sanding in between, etc. But that seems like that is going to put a thick shell over it that will be very slick. not ideal for a swim platform.

Should i just hit it with teak oil, or do i really need to go through all those coats of varnishing?

There's extensive topic coverage on Linseed Oil mix here.

This is what I did with my teak this past off season and it's held up very well this season.
