'92 PCM 5.8 Pro Boss thermostat, upside down???

Hey all - feel a bit silly asking this but I would rather sound dumb for a few than blow up my motor. Took my sticking thermostat out end of last season, I've just now gotten the new one in and ready for install. Boat is a 1992 Comp ts6m with the 5.8 Carbed Pro Boss. I've attached pictures of engine and thermostat housing as well as replacement thermostat.

For the life of me I can not remember 1. If the lid of the housing comes off and the t-stat just sits inside and 2. If the button (opposite the pyramid side) faces down or up. Note to self: do not work on boat after consuming six pack.

Yep , has a lip inside for it to sit in
