Can anyone tell me what type of fluid is used in the gear box on a 2005 Supra Launch 21V? Mine is reading a little low on the dipstick and I need to top it off. Thanks!!

It takes Dexron transmission fluid (I think Dexron3 ??). I always use Synthetic fluid, which is compatible with all the various dexrons.
You're right! As a gearhead gearbox naturally means tranny to me (especially since there are no gears in the Wathers unit). I forget many don't follow the same terminology. So Dexron in the tranny, and non-detergent 30w in the V-drive.

Thanks Guys!
Awhile back I talked to the folks at walter’s about appropriate lubrication for there v-drives. I was having a tough time finding non detergent HD SAE30 motor oil. The engineer I spoke to explained non detergent oil is important as the system has no filter. Detergents suspend particles in the oil to be transported and filtered. In a gear box with no filter you want the particulate to sink to the bottom. He also stated EP68 Gear Oil or Lubriplate APG 80 Gear Oil are recommended in the V-Drive manual and will provide better protection than motor oil. Gear boxes are under tremendous load and need an extreme pressure lubricant. The manual also recommends adding 3oz moly to the gear box oil.
EP 68 proved impossible to find in quantities less than 5gal. However, I was able to find the Lubriplate APG 80 in 1gal. Here’s where I ordered:

I went ahead and changed the V-Drive oil with the new Lubriplate and added the 3oz of moly.
My V-Drive is so much quieter and engages considerably smoother.
I’m sold!

A little late reply but may still help somebody....
Most things in automobile that have a yellow handle/cap is Oil, Red is Transmission and Blue is water based. This would also apply to boat engines.
