Default Rudder Broke Off - Didn't hit anything

Just a normal day of skiing, skier falls down and instead of power back it powered into it and a hard right turn then zero feeling on the steering wheel. At first I thought it was the steering mechanics but upon further inspection the rudder sheared off. Looking at where the bronze was it looks like rust. Is it possible it was cracked years ago and just now let go with some force?

I do at least one power turn every time I go out.

Anyone know the shaft diameter or know of a parts boat that would have a donor for sale?36052211_10155881955474585_3899872584426061824_n.jpg36177028_10155881955479585_2476760373764554752_n.jpg36088163_10155881955489585_6503558506031874048_n.jpg

Sounds like you're hard on equipment with all those power turns. Bad for maintaining flat water for yourself and others as well. In any event, the darker color at the edges of the shear look like it may have been cracked on each side for a while.

Regardless, I went with a Mastercraft 200178 rudder for my Saltare, along with a 200172 rudder port. I chose this because it is a similar size and shape as the original Supra rudder. The cheap rudder Skidim and others sell that most seem to go with it pretty small. Probably fine for a Comp or other small boat that tended to come with that style rudder, but maybe a bit sluggish for a larger or heavier boat. Must have been interesting getting back to the trailer without the rudder.
