    If it wasn't new then take it out and put it in a pot of water on the stove. Measure the temperature of the water when you see the thermostat start opening to verify it's working correctly. Verify the temperature at which it is in full open position.

    Water pump likely on backwards. It goes on the opposite direction it seems like it should.

    On my 89' Conbrio, I pulled the pump in the early summer to check and clean it and I put in back on backwards. Engine started getting warm and I knew I had done something wrong. Went back, switched the pump around and it ran cool as a cucumber like always. Thats what happens when you get in a hurry.
