    Default Boat polishing/clear coat

I have a 1985 Supra sunspot and last season during a light polishing on the blue parts of the boat I noticed the polishing pad would pick up some of the blue color.

Is this an indication that the clear coat is worn out and does anyone have any suggestions on products to help restore and protect the finish outside of completely re doing the clear coat?

If your hull hasn't been painted there's no clear coat. The factory finish is called gel coat. It's part of the fiberglassing process in hull construction. It's typically about the thickness of a credit card before you start getting into fiberglass cloth. Polishing, compounding or wet sanding will pull some of the gel off, normally the oxidized outer layer but if you go full Rambo eventually you can work through the gel coat into the fiberglass.

Is your hull hazy in color or are you just wanting to wax?
