    Default WakeMikey's 1987 Supra SunSport wake/surf

Hey Supra fans! Following is a photo diary of my progress converting this SunSport to a wake/surf beast.

I have been wakeboarding for 12+ years behind an i/o in a river. Last year I finally stepped to owning my own boat and bought my first inboard with my long-time girlfriend. We drove five hours to pick up this 1987 Supra SunSport for $7500.

It was 2nd owner, used for barefooting and had 500 hours. Even in 87 it has a hydrolic wake plate, built in cooler, eight cupholders and tinted windows.

Okay that was last spring. Since the we have added a Monster Tower MT1 with two board racks. Love it.

New Dimension is the OEM tower but we needed one that collapses fully for our boatlift and also I personally don't like the crossbars.

We removed the ski pylon (need something to cover that hole!) and the interesting slalom ski racks (pm me if you want 'em!).

So we are on the Mississippi River in Anoka, MN and we (me and fam) were really worried about an inboard on a river where there are plenty of shallow spots and rocks. With the I/O we went through a prop every couple years. Buddy took off a skeg on an I/O. But in the one year so far with the inboard, we have had NO incidents at speed. Just a couple teeny dings from docking in shallow gravely water. So I am very impressed and love my inboard.

If you look at these two pics, the bottom pic the boat is unweighted. In the top pic there is a fat sac in the rear ski locker about 270lbs.

The lovely factory camper top. 2nd is a floating bimini I acquired last fall. Should be a nice summer!

Next step was the ballast. Currently we have four sacs all hidden and plumbed 1400lbs. Also an optional surf sac for the floor. Gotta love the storage on the SunSport! Two sacs in the rear, two in the front. One pump, fill and drain through the raw water intake. No pic of the front two right now. May add a 2nd Simer eventually. And overflow lines.

Hey Michael - Thanks for looking! Many more pics to come. I have not yet encountered another model of this year or older with hydrolic. Not sure why but I feel lucky!

I usually put it all the way up with the switch, then I lower it just slightly like 1/2". This makes wakes taller and steeper. Any more and they get totally flat. It is really good for choppy water, driving slow, or holeshot.

Here is a pic of the plate while I was fitting it for Fresh Air Exhaust which will go on in spring. Last pic is of the wakeplate switch on the dash. There is a small motor and oil resevour under the rear seat.

I also replaced the factory black plastic throttle knob with this smaller chrome knob from rexmarine.com. It was cheap and it's more accurate since it's smaller.

I have also since these pics sanded and revarnished the teak. Pics of that'll come soon

Pic of the interior nowadays. Surf wake and wakeboard wake sacked out at 1400 lbs. New propeller should let us go heavier.
