    WakeMikey!

You'd be the guy to ask...When is the Mississippi usually ready for boating?

Hey iLikeBoats, thanks! I also really like the black FAE. It matches my tower too...except that the FAE is underwater most of the time haha. You are likely correct that I could put flappers on those flanges (if I could find the right size flapper). It would look a tad funny because they stick out a bit from the transom but it should work fine. Thanks for the idea.

The functionality of the FAE is amazing. You can whisper from the driver to passanger in rear bench seat while cruising around. You can converse with the surfer in a normal talking voice while riding. You can hear the waves slapping the underside of the hull while cruising. IMO it is amazing, it's quieter than anything on the water but when I open the throttle up, or turn tightly or while at speed the water is disturbed enough to let out the roar.

I boat in a river so I prefer a brass prop which will bend and protect my drivetrain / prop shaft. I was told that boats with a stock 13" prop do not gain enough extra surface area to warrant the extra blade. I do have an agressive 3-blade, 10.5 x 13. Thanks for the comments!

Shawn - Hey bud PM me your phone number again, my phone is busted (HULK SMASH!) and I lost your #! My buddy Don is already going out boating for the year.

The Mississippi flooded some this spring which brought the levels way up and flushed tons of debris. Now the water have gone back down so it's too low for boating right now. There would be some scary spots right off of the Champlain boat launch on either side of the river. The launch at the dam might be okay and it's much deeper down there all across the river.

The level will be artificially raised for the summer on May 3rd or around there. It takes two weeks to be raised. So we are gonna have to go somewhere else for a while! There is a problem with the dam this year (that has happened before GRRR - one time they could not raise it all summer and we had to boat somewhere else! OMG!)

    Here is some more info:
    http://www.threeriversparks.org/news...-date-set.aspx
The Park District is inspecting the scour hole on the concrete apron below the dam in late April prior to raising the pool. As previously reported, this scour hole was discovered last fall. Although significant, the scour hole is not considered an immediate dam safety threat. We do not anticipate that the hole has progressed to the point of being a safety issue, but the inspection will provide more information.

If all goes well, the summer elevation should be attained by May 15; however, the date can be affected by extraordinary rainfall events or unanticipated inspection results.

The pool will be raised to the elevation of 830.1 feet above sea level, its normal summer elevation. The pool’s summer elevation at the dam is approximately seven feet higher than the river's normal winter elevation.
Here's a good link to water level info for the Mississ

I bought a house this last fall, so my boat is actually being stored a couple blocks away from Medicine Lake in Plymouth (down 169). I plan on boating there at least some of the time this summer. How have you been? I gotta get out on your boat this summer sometime!

Well that's too bad about the dam...hopefully they'll be able to fix and use it.

That's crazy that Don is already out! I wonder what the water temp is like...

I checked out Medicine lake once, I'm not sure if the water was low or what, but the launch is really long and shallow. It seemed pretty iffy to launch one of our boats in there...

And I'll PM you my number again. Definitely give me a text/call if you're going out and have room.

I think he said 67. Thanks for the tip on Medicine, I will need to look into that. I know there are a few wake boats on the shoreline, so they must get in somehow hehe!

Just thought I would share. Hopefully my blown engine nightmare is over and we are back in the good life. We got the boat back home today and gave her a test drive and short surf. So much more power and she sounds so so nice. New distributer and elec ignition, starter, trans damp plate, new rebuilt 351w longblock. Totally done for $2700. Ouch but could have easily been double that. I will be goin out tomorrow and will take some pics then. I'm back baby!
