04 SSV Gas Tank Size, 40gal or ?

I have a 04 SSV, and my gas gauge reads under an 1/8 of a tank. I top off the tank at the gas station and it only takes 21 gal. Hmmm, if 7/8=21gal then I'm only getting use of a 24 gal tank. What gives? Is there a calabration? Is there a way to measure the status of the tank other than the gauge?

I'm on my 3rd boat and one thing has been consistent among all the makes & models I've had....fuel gauges are never accurate! Refill early.

My boat is the exact same way. Igot mine from the dealer new with little or no gas and hand poured 15 gallons in a 34 gallon tank and it read below 1/8 of a tank. Maybe the tank is wider at the bottom or something?

jflock2 hit the nail on the head. Boat fuel guages leave a lot to be desired. What I've done is fill my boat up before going out, than refueling right after and track how many gals you have used over how many hours you were out running.Do this at least 3 or 4 times and get your average of gals per hour used.Your owners book should till you or Supra web site on the size of your tank, you want to figure a couple gals in the tahk are not usable. This will give you a better guide than the guage.
